A friend wanted me to check out this show. Luckily it was already on my to-watch list!
"White Collar" (USA, Fri., 10:00): In the series premier, Matt Bomer plays Neal Caffrey, a sexy and sophisticated, world-class con artist who's been charged for everything from art theft to racketeering. With his talents, he could be one of the country's wealthiest men but all he wants to do is search for his girlfriend who up and vanished. (It's always about a girl). Neal escapes from prison - very easily, I might add - to go searching for Kate but she's blowing in the wind. He's caught by FBI agent Peter Burke, the man who put him in jail in the first place. Neal strikes a deal with the agent: In exchange for his freedom, Neal will help him catch elusive criminal, "The Dutchman". And with the click of an ankle monitor, Neal was free.
Pause it: Who knew it was so easy to get out of jail. Prisoners take note: if you have a special talent, share that with the nearest prison guard. If I were Agent Burke I would be embarrassed that a 2-bit, white-collar criminal could solve cases faster than me. And there was a spark between Burke's wife and Caffrey when he showed up at their house. How much would it suck to lose your wife to the man you put in jail? Not saying that's where this is going, but it could get dicey.
The show looks interesting enough. The relationship between Neal and Agent Burke is humorous, but I don't know if it's enough to sustain a show like this. If the crimes don't get more intriguing, this show could become the next "Prison Break" - good for one season, but not much more than that. I'll stick with it another week or two since there's not much else on on Fridays.
